Teaser Tuesdays (June 8)
Teaser Tuesday is a fun bookish meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading. The idea is to open the book you are currently reading at a random page and share two teaser sentences from that page. Of course the teaser should avoid being a spoiler. And please include the title and author so others can read the book if they wish. Here is mine for this week:
It was plump, one afternoon, in the middle of my very hour: the children were tucked away, and I had come out for my stroll. One of the thoughts that, as I don't in the least shrink now from noting, used to be with me in these wanderings was that it would be as charming as a charming story suddenly to meet someone.
p 15 The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
I am really enjoying this story. The language is long winded but delicious.
I had to read this a second time to fully adjust to the language. It has be forever since I have read Henry James.
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to see a classic show up on Teaser Tuesday! I haven't read anything by James. Here's my teaser for Dark Lover.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more Jan. The language is often ambiguous and very round about. Thank goodness it is a short little novel because it is taking some getting through. But the suspense is working for me so far.
ReplyDeletePlump use of language! Welcome to TT!
ReplyDeleteIt took me a couple of tries as well - but a great one!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
This isn't the usual type of book that I read, but it sounds pretty good. Might have to check it out :)
ReplyDeleteHERE is my teaser for this week.
I'm no different! I had to read it a couple times as well! Nice teaser!
ReplyDeleteMy teaser is here.
Would anyone get away with 'I don't in the least shrink now from noting' these days I wonder?!
ReplyDeleteMy teaser's at http://hampshireflyer.wordpress.com/2010/06/08/teaser-tuesday-16/
I read The Turn of the Screw about 15 years ago. I have in my to be re-read pile. Pussreboots.
ReplyDeleteI read The Portrait of a Lady recently and mainly enjoyed it. I was starting to lose a bit of interest by the end, it just went on for so long. So I am keen to try a new Henry James book - The Turn of the Screw is my next read of his, I won it in a giveaway on another blog and I am already looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteWonderful teaser!
ReplyDeleteMine's here.
