Antipodean Childhoods

Antipodean Childhoods

As I shiver through an Aussie winter I found this post on the New Yorker fiction blog: The Book Bench about two authors reminiscing about  hot childhood Christmas rituals in Australian, very heart warming.

The New Yorker is a wonderful source of many things bookish.  Also note they have an excellent montly fiction podcast you can subsribe to for free through iTunes or listen to straight from The New Yorker website.  The podcasts features a different author each month who reads a favourite short story from the work of another author, and provides comment on the story.  I love these podcasts hosted by The New Yorker's fiction editor Deborah Treisman

  4. Thanks for the feedback on the new design Becky. I am still at that silly stage in my blogging where I get the urge to change the background every time a new background design comes along.

And for the record I have to say I don't like the word antipodean used to describe things from Australia and New Zealand. It is like an archaic version of "down under" isn't it? And equally cringe worthy. It's just that this is what the post from The New Yorker was headed up with, and I didn't want to mess with it :-)

  5. Thanks Becky re the link to your review for the The Transit of Venus. I will definitely have a look. I haven't read anything from Shirley Hazzard and would like to give it a go.

Also I will figure out how to attach my email to my profile so you can email me at any time.
